The instructions were contradictory to everything i read about installing with win XP (reviews). My computer started to freeze at this point. I had to uninstall the Linksys software and use windows to find new hardware (as many forums suggest) & target the driver on the cd. This did not solve the problems.
My computer continued to freeze up, it would sometimes unfreeze if i pulled the adapter out. With both of these routes, the adapter never worked at finding ANY network within range (there are a few). Continued in other thoughts.
Other Thoughts: Next i downloaded the latest software/driver from linksysbycisco.com, version 1.0. Finally, the adapter could find the networks & seemed to work ok, altho the signal was very weak. I thought all was good until my computer froze several more times. I've since read a TON of reviews (see the linksys website above and query this adapter model and 'freeze') with people having the same problems & no easy solutions. I'm definitely not willing to keep messing with this. Do NOT recommend Linksys after this experience! To good recpetion range.
The software on their disc is adequate and XP recognized things quickly. I'd say it's a toss up between using Linksys software or Windows Wireless Zero Configuration. Linksys is definitely better than Trendnet's crud. Personally, the D-link stuff is favored best but the Linksys brand seems to deliver. Cons: I'd like to see improved reception range from the wireless card.

I had to spend $40 on a D-link 8Dbi antenna to improve the transmission signal end of the wireless link. It's not like I'm a block away--- I was a mere two rooms away and signal was 'very low' as reported, regardless how I positioned laptop and transmit antenna.
